Washing instructions
Merino wool is robust and delicate at the same time. Wash your socks the right way and they will last for years, getting softer with every wash.
01. The wash
Washing, step by step
Follow these steps and your socks will come out fresher and softer every time.
Turn the socks inside out before putting them in the machine. This protects the outside of the fibres and keeps the colour intense for longer, especially with dark colours such as Onyx.
Put the socks in a fine-mesh wash bag. This stops the fibres rubbing against zips or other textile structures, which extends their life considerably.
Use the wool programme or hand-wash programme on your machine. Set the temperature to a maximum of 30°C. Higher temperatures make the fibres shrink and stiffen, and that is irreversible.
Always use a wool or delicates detergent without enzymes or bleach. Enzymes break down the protein structure of wool and attack the fibres. Brands such as Woolite, Eucalan or Perwoll Wool are suitable.
A short spin programme (max. 800 rpm) is fine. Prolonged spinning or wringing can distort the fibres. Washing by hand? Press the water out gently, never wring.
Lay the socks flat on a drying rack or towel, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Never hang them up, damp merino wool stretches under its own weight. Never in the tumble dryer, as heat damages the fibre permanently.
The first wash: your socks are delivered unwashed, a deliberate choice to save water. After the first wash they become noticeably softer and more comfortable.
02. Do and don't
Our tips & tricks

- ✗ Ironing, even on the lowest setting
- ✗ Hanging them up to dry, socks stretch out
- ✗ Wringing them out after washing

03. Symbols
What the washing symbols mean
On the packaging of your socks you will find international washing symbols. This is what they mean for your merino socks.
Please note: the symbols on the packaging take precedence. In doubt? Always wash cooler than you think, merino wool forgives a temperature that is too low but not one that is too high.
04. Storage
Storing socks properly
Storing them well extends their life and prevents damage from moths or damp. Three simple rules.
Only put socks away when they are completely dry. Damp socks in a drawer or box attract mould and attack the fibres. Wash them first, even if they have only been worn once.
Fold the socks neatly on top of each other, do not roll them up with the cuff turned over. That stretches the elastic over time. Fold them in half or lay them side by side in a drawer.
Merino wool is naturally less attractive to moths than ordinary wool, but it is not completely immune. Store your socks in a closed drawer, or use a block of cedar wood or a lavender sachet as a natural moth repellent.
Quality & lifespan
Cared for well, they last for years
Merino wool is naturally self-cleaning and odour-resistant. You do not need to wash the socks after every day of wear. Three to five wears per wash is perfectly fine.
